When Tibetan lama Phakyab Rinpoche immigrated to the United States in 2003, he suffered from severe diabetes and Pott’s Disease. His afflictions had gotten so bad that his right foot and leg had developed gangrene. Three different doctors in New York City gave him the same treatment recommendation: amputate.

Rinpoche decided to seek advice from his mentor, the Dalai Lama. However, the Dalai Lama told him not to amputate his limbs and suggested him to utilize his virtuoso skills at Tsa Lung meditation – heal himself. After months of meditation practice, he can already walk on crutches, and in less than a year, his leg healed.

Meditation Is a Double-Edged Sword

Steve Jobs admired meditation very much.
